Box Contents:

2 lbs Blue Heron Oranges

1 hd Green Cabbage

1 Butterkin Squash

1 lb Mixed Carrots

1 bu Green Chard

1.5 lbs Russian Banana Fingerling Potatoes

Field Notes: Looks like we have got some rain this week and hoping for more.

One year ago, with a grant from Stop Waste in Alameda County, we were able to supplement our cardboard boxes with plastic totes that are more permanent and re-usable. Just a reminder, please return the plastic tote to your CSA site the following week or bring a bag to transfer the veggie box contents into and leave the plastic tote at the site. Thank you to all of your support in the Stop Waste movement.

Box Notes: The navel oranges are back from Blue Heron Farm in Rumsey. They are certified organically grown by CCOF, like Riverdog Farm’s crops, eggs, and livestock. The oranges will be a weekly feature of the veggie boxes for a month or two. They are great for juicing and eating sliced or by sections.  On the horizon: green garlic, little gem lettuce, and asparagus in March. Snow, snap and shelling peas coming in April. Throughout February, March and April you will see a variety of bunch greens, winter squash and carrots.

News: We have added a new drop site in El Cerrito to the Wednesday route. This site is near Lexington and Lincoln. Let your neighbors know!

Save the Date: Almond Festival Sunday February 23, 2020 - An all-day, 5 town event celebrating the almond blossoms of the region. There’s a pancake breakfast served by the FFA at the Esparto High School, a book sale at the Esparto Library and delicious wood-fired pizza featuring Riverdog Farm sausage is served in the hamlet of Rumsey.  Click here for more information. https://www.espartoregionalchamber.com/events/2019/2/24/capay-valley-almond-festival-mbwfn

CSA Payment Schedule: The 2020-delivery schedule is attached to the newsletter email this week. We encourage you to consider making the annual payment for your veggie box deliveries. This helps support the farm by providing advance purchasing power for labor, seeds, fertilizers, and other farming expenses that are essential to the farm’s operations. Thank you for supporting the farm with your continued CSA subscription!
